Japan has a history steeped in rich tradition when it comes to cocktails. It is said that Samurai warriors would drink sake to keep warm during winter battles. Celebrating a special occasion would always call for a special sake or a cocktail made with shochu, (a vodka-type spirit that has been distilled in Japan since the 15th century), or whisky, or plum wine.Over the past years, cocktails with Japanese spirits have become increasingly popular throughout the world. Master mixologist and editor of "The Cocktail Times", Yuri Kato, shares some of her favourites with us.
