Nigel Paterson is an energy research scientist, who worked for British Coal, at the Coal Research Establishment (near Tewkesbury) and now at Imperial College London. He has maintained an interest in the historic buildings of the area, since moving to Stroud in 1974. He has restored several houses in Stroud and Chalford and has helped many owners understand the development of their buildings. He was one of the founder Directors of the Stroud Preservation Trust and a founder member of the Gloucestershire Buildings Recording Group. He is currently Chairman of both groups. He is married to Kathy (head of history department at Marling School).
