This special edition of 'History of the Strange Sounds or Rappings Heard in Rochester and New York' was written by D.M. Dewey, and first published in 1850, making it close to 170 years old.
This antiquarian text on the classic case of the Fox Sisters from New York State contains sections on History of the Mysterious Noises! Heard in the Fox Family, The Investigation of the Subject, Removal of a Part of the Family to Rochester, Further Manifestations, and more. The book also features witness statements and correspondence regarding the phenomena.
It should be noted that in later years one of the sisters admitted that she and her sibling were the source of the strange noises, and they were not due to unseen supernatural forces, but she later retracted that confession.
Although it's a short, fast read, this is a fantastic old find and an absolute essential addition to the libraries of all enthusiasts of Victorian Era hauntings and supernatural incidents.
