Excerpt from The Pratt Family: A Genealogical Record of Mathew Pratt of Weymouth, Mass., And His American Descendants, 1623-1889 There are known to have been at least ten persons by the' name of Pratt who settled in New England between 1691 and 1650. Some of these individuals were doubtless members of the same family, perhaps brothers, or of other relationship near or remote; but from what places in England they came, or who were their imme diate ancestors, or in what ship each arrived, is very much a matter of tradition. There are to-day, doubtless, in the mother country, legal records, and town or family genealogies, which, if examined, would clear up much of the Obscurity which surrounds the early history Of the Pratt families. It is to be hoped that at some time, not far distant, some one will make the necessary thorough investigations.
