A native of Indiana, graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, and of the University of Bristol, England, Mary Alice Sutherland was formerly with New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is the translator of After Daguerre, published by the museum. Sutherland has also held positions at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and at the University of California Humanities Research Institute. She currently resides in California.
