The guy who rocked the world with his iconic purple outfits and equally iconic music and performances inspired this cocktail, the Purple Rain. Incidentally, it is the name of his 6th album and movie in which he starred as a character based on himself. Prince Rogers Nelson, more popularly known in the entertainment industry as Prince, was a multi-awarded singer and songwriter, selling more than 100 million records. He died in 2016 from an accidental fentanyl overdose. Fentanyl is an opioid pain medication he took for his hip displacement. He did not undergo surgery to correct his condition because he cannot take blood transfusions due to his religious beliefs.Purple Rain is a variation of the Long Island Iced Tea and another cocktail with almost the same ingredients as the current Purple Rain. The blue curacao and the grenadine give this cocktail its distinct purple color. When drizzled after the cocktail has been mixed with the blue curacao, the gradual sinking of the grenadine into the cocktail evokes the imagery of a strong rain.
