As a curious and inquisitive child I loved to explore even if exploration took me no further than our backyard. My father had a vegetable garden and mother had flower beds filled with sweet william, pansies, fuchsia, dahlias, and Amaryllis. Large caterpillars could be found among the sweet potato vines, monarch butterflies laid their eggs on the swan plant and bees pollinated the flowers. My siblings and I gathered wild blackberries and on warm days after the rain, we walked nearby pastures gathering mushrooms. As an extremely active child I loved to run, skip, jump and play games with friends. I went on to represent my school in various sports. During my childhood I developed an intense love of nature and the natural world and as an adult I continue to learn, grow and explore.
