水德章第七十八
天下莫弱於水，而攻堅強者莫之能勝。以其無以易之。弱之勝強，柔之勝剛，天下莫不知，莫能行。是以聖人云：「受國之垢，是謂社稷主；受國不祥，是謂天下王。」正言若反。

第七十八章
天下莫弱于水，而攻坚强者莫之能胜，以其无以易之。
弱之胜强，柔之胜刚，天下莫不知，莫能行。
是以圣人云：「受国之垢，是谓社稷主 ﹔受国不祥，是为天下王。」

Dì qīshíbā zhāng
tiān xià mòr uò yú shuǐ, ér gōngjiān jiānqiáng zhě mò zhī néng shēng, yǐ qí wú yǐ yì zhī.
Ruò zhī shèng qiáng, róu zhī shèng gāng, tiānxià mò bùzhī, mò néng xíng.
Shì yǐ shèngrén yún:“Shòu guózhī biāo dù, shì wèi shèjì zhǔ﹔shòu guó bùxiáng, shì wéi tiānxià wáng.”

78. Yielding
Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water,
Yet nothing can better overcome the hard and strong,
For they can neither control nor do away with it.

The soft overcomes the hard,
The yielding overcomes the strong;
Every person knows this,
But no one can practice it.

Who attends to the people would control the land and grain;
Who attends to the state would control the whole world;
Truth is easily hidden by rhetoric.
天下萬物中，沒有什麼比水更柔弱了。然而對付堅強的東西，沒有什麼能勝過水了。這是因為水柔弱得沒有什麼能改變它。
這個柔弱勝剛強的道理，天下的人沒有不知道的，卻沒有能實行的。
所以聖人說：那為國受辱的，就是社稷之主；那為國受難的，就是天下之王。這些正面肯定的話，聽起來好像反話一樣，不容易理解。

天下万物中，没有什么比水更柔弱了。然而对付坚强的东西，没有什么能胜过水了。这是因为水柔弱得没有什么能改变它。
这个柔弱胜刚强的道理，天下的人没有不知道的，却没有能实行的。
所以圣人说：那为国受辱的，就是社稷之主；那为国受难的，就是天下之王。这些正面肯定的话，听起来好像反话一样，不容易理解。
